General yoga
At
Sitaram we have developed a broad spectrum of yoga classes to meet the needs
of different types of students.
As a general rule, all the classes offer an integrated mix of breathwork, postures, movement and relaxation. Most also include meditative practices, and some use sound, or chanting.
The classes cater for specific levels of experience, and new students are always asked to complete a registration form to ensure that the teacher is aware of any particular health problems or other issues that may affect your yoga practice. The small group sizes ensure an optimum learning and teaching environment.
They are suitable for those with some previous experience who would like to deepen their practice, and are specially suited to women who have done some pregnancy or postnatal yoga. Complete beginners are also welcome, provided that they are in good health and are seriously interested in learning some core yoga practices.
The classes teach the fundamentals of hatha yoga practice: awareness, breath, movement, postures and relaxation. You will learn techniques to increase energy, strength, flexibility, balance and aid relaxation.
Our current schedule for general yoga includes a Wednesday evening and a Saturday morning option. The range of practices taught in both sessions is designed to be complementary. So we warmly encourage students to attend both sessions if they can. Twice weekly attendance is the sure way to gain maximum benefit from the practices, and to consolidate an embodied learning of the techniques taught. When this is not possible, then students can opt for one or other session, and/or transfer between classes as they need.

Wednesday night general yoga with Ambreen
Ambreen has been practicing yoga for over fifteen years - and trained to teach with The Life Centre. Her yogic influences are drawn from the great Satyananda, Iyengar and Viniyoga traditions. While she has a broad-based approach to yoga, she has specialized in restorative practices, designed to access the body’s natural healing power through deep relaxation.
The Wednesday night class will be a gentle but invigorating general class (for beginners and intermediate students), focusing in particular on development of core strength and the skill of inner listening. There will be an emphasis on restorative practices and healing relaxation to help inject that little midweek boost of energy!
