For yoga teachers who wish to teach specialist yoga for pregnancy classes.

This is a new yoga teacher training course, designed by Uma Dinsmore-Tuli specially for teachers on the Life Centre's level two training, or for other teachers with equivalent experience.

It offers a unique synthesis of many less widely taught aspects of yoga for pregnancy, and enables teachers to meet the needs of pregnant students who come to pregnancy with an existing yoga practice, as well as those who are new to yoga.

Sessions will includemantra, mudra, nada yoga and pranavidya practices. With contributions from midwives, it will provide both the theoretical and practical training necessary to teach yoga classes specifically for pregnant women, whether or not they have an existing yoga practice.

The emphasis of the course will be on supporting healthy pregnancy through appropriate holistic yoga practices. There will be opportunities for teaching practice, as well as informal assessments during the course and you should be prepared for both a short pre-course assignment and written work
after each session.

For questions about the course, please contact yoga@sitaram.org.
For bookings, please contact The Life Centre.

Safe Integration of pregnant students in yoga classes

14 and 15 June 2008
10am –5pm each day

At the Yoga Therapy Centre,
90-92 Pentonville Road,
London N1 9HS

A pregnant student in your general class is a real gift to you and your other students – but do you know how to keep her safe in her yoga practice?

A postnatal student is one of the most vulnerable students you may ever teach: she presents an opportunity to share the healing power of yoga, but also offers challenging physical and emotional weakness that require sensitive and perceptive teaching.

This workshop will guide you on some of the ‘don’ts’, that apply to these special students, but more importantly, will inspire you to be creative and joyous in integrating your pregnant and postnatal students into the class in a way which delights them, you, and the rest of the class.

Yoga for Labour and Birth

Pregnancy yoga teachers continuing professional development with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and Nirlipta Tuli

For pregnancy yoga teachers from all traditions already working with pregnant women.

Dates for 2008 to be announced, including a session in Cork.

Learn how to teach effective, enjoyable yoga birth 'rehearsal' sessions to expectant mums and dads. Develop practical skills to present yoga breath, movement and deep relaxation for labour and birth.

This weekend of continuing professional development draws on material which we present regularly for our pregnant students in our Sitaram birth rehearsals.

The weekend will include time for your questions, sharings and discussions. The format for sharing the yoga birth rehearsal material is based on our Yoga for birth one-day workshop, which was initially designed for midwives at King's College Hospital Trust, but is now re-configured to meet the needs of pregnancy yoga teachers who wish to develop this area of work for their pregnant students.

On a case by case basis, this weekend may also be open to midwives and therapists who have personal yoga experience and who are working with pregnant and labouring women. Please email your details to yoga@sitaram.org to discuss this possibility.

If you are interested in attending this course, and want to find out more you are welcome to call Uma or Nirlipta on 0787 215 1122 for a chat about it, or email yoga@sitaram.org

Teacher nurture week, in Italy

(After the delightful success of this special retreat week in 2006, we are planning to re-run a similar event in 2008. Please contact us for the current plans.)

Continuing professional development and support for pregnancy and postnatal yoga teachers and trainees

Sitaram Yoga partnership is delighted to be able to offer pregnancy and postnatal yoga teachers / trainees the opportunity to join them in a week of 'teacher nurture' this summer in Italy.

In partnership with Tarcento Yoga, we shall be hosting a group of perinatal yoga teachers at a traditional country house on the edge of Tarcento, a small town in the foothills of the Giulian Alps, just north of Udine, the capital of the Italian region of Friuli in the north east of Italy.

The woods on the hills surrounding the town are interspersed with vineyards and small villages. The river Torre, winding its way through the town, has easy access for swimming or just sitting in the sun away from it all. We'll have open air classes in the gorgeous garden, and time to relax and renew.

This course provides time and resources for perinatal yoga teachers to further develop their teaching skills and to deepen personal practice. There will be morning hatha yoga classes with Gyananjan, with an especial focus on pranayama. The second session in each day will be discussions and sharing on
key areas of concern for those working in this field: sharing best practice and addressing common difficulties experienced by pregnant / postnatal students and their teachers. The afternoon sessions will be practical, dealing with issues such as emotional instability in pregnancy and the postnatal period, women's sexuality and motherhood, care and repir of the pelvic floor, restorative and relaxation practices, and the use of sound and movement in perinatal yoga.

A core of places on this course are reserved as continuing professional development for Sitaram's own teachers. We look forward to welcoming other teachers / trainees working in the field to join us. Interested applicants should contact Sitaram direct (yoga@sitaram.org or 0787 215 1122 to discuss their suitability for attendance.
